"Augmented Asbury Park: The Posters"

October 18 - November 15, 2014

opening reception Saturday, October 18th, 6-9pm

Red Bank FrameWorks presents in the gallery "Augmented Asbury Park: The Posters", a suite of 10 graphic works paying homage to historical events, architectural landmarks, and key attractions from Asbury’s long and colorful history as one of the East Coast’s premiere recreational destinations.
Through the use of augmented reality technology, these historical elements are brought back to life in “Augmented Asbury Park”, a project developed by Monmouth University professors Mike Richison and Marina Vujnovic, and Kean University professor Ed Johnston.

By referencing old photographs and source material, the team has re- constructed these vanished moments of local history, allowing the viewer to overlay 3D renderings at the actual locations through use of a smart phone app. Included in the project are the Boardwalk Carousel, the original Casino building (which burned down in 1928), it’s replacement (demolished in 2004), The Natatorium (a massive indoor swimming pool), the Monterrey Hotel, the Morro Castle Disaster (a 1934 cruise ship fire in which 135 people died just off the coast), the Palace Amusements complex, featuring Tillie’s grinning face, the 7th Avenue Pavilion, and the famous Sky Ride attraction popular during the 1960-70s.
For each segment of the project, a poster was designed to reflect the era and feel of that landmark or event, and includes related historical
information. Using vintage color schemes and varied typefaces, this collection of 10 prints offers a graphic equivalent to the digital
augmented experience. Bold, bright, and colorful, these posters inspire and educate, helping to preserve the rich, unique legacy of Asbury Park’s past.
These limited-edition posters are available in 2 different sizes: 12” x 18”, and 24” x 36”, either individually, or as a complete set of 10. Pigment print on archival paper, signed and numbered editions of
