We live inside and outside of boxes. Real-world boxes built by our hands -- homes, workplaces, and cars -- and metaphoric boxes created by our minds -- expectations, restrictions, and personal identities. Photographer Jay Sullivan spent seven summers in his Red Bank backyard exploring inside boxes, outside boxes and the places in between using a hand-made pinhole camera. Out of the Box is both a series of pinhole photographs and the conversations they enjoin.
Exhibition Dates: Wednesday, July 28th through Wednesday, September 15th, 10am-5pm, Tuesday through Saturday, (closed Sunday and Monday).
Location: Red Bank FrameWorks 135 Monmouth Street, Red Bank, NJ 732-219-6688.
In lieu of a formal opening reception, the photographer is present in the gallery Wednesday, July 28th through Saturday, July 31st, 1pm – 5pm for one-on-one or small group discussions about photographic, creative, and mind-made boxes. He will be hosting the discussions using “Conversation Cards”, visual playing cards designed specifically to facilitate conversations during this exhibition.
